Utila, Honduras

Utila Changed My Pace

Utila felt magical from the first week. Time loosened its grip. Mornings started on the reef, afternoons drifted into hammocks, and evenings ended with music over the water and long talks with new friends.

There is nothing like a night dive here. The lights go off, you wave your hand, and the water blooms with bioluminescence. Beto guided us with quiet confidence and kept the group relaxed and safe. He is the best divemaster I have met and I recommend him to anyone.

I came for a few weeks and stayed four months. Leaving was the hardest part. If you make it here, you might feel the same. Many travelers do.

One thing I heard again and again was that travelers on the Central America trail kept meeting the same people in different countries. You say goodbye in Guatemala and bump into each other in Honduras. You split in Nicaragua and reconnect in Costa Rica. Utila is one of those places where threads cross and friendships stick.
